Parent Community Meeting

As a parent or guardian at the school, you are a member of the parent community and always welcome at meetings.
This month the guest faculty speaker will be Meredith Merchant. She will talk about our school’s practical arts program as well as why it is important to have practical arts as part of the Waldorf curriculum.
There will also be a butter tasting. Find out which commercially available butter is your favorite by tasting different brands side by side.
Come to hear Meredith! Come for the butter! Come to connect with other parents!

MLK Day of Service (NO SCHOOL)

Each year, on the third Monday in January, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is observed as a “day on, not a day off.” MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.” (from the Organization for National and Community Service website)

This year, we are encouraging the UPWS community to participate in the MLK Day of Service in one of two volunteer options: La Casa Norte and the Urban Prairie Kitchen.

La Casa Norte is a great organization that works with young people and families who are facing homelessness. For several years, we have given the collection from our warm things drive to La Casa Norte, and we are happy to increase our connection with them. Unfortunately, they can only accommodate 20 volunteers (and volunteering children count towards that total) for the morning of sandwich-making and other duties, so sign up quickly!

Our own great kitchen project is another option for service on Monday! The Urban Prairie Kitchen envisions not only serving our own students and families, but reaching outside our doors into our new neighborhood. That dream begins with cleaning! We have to prepare the space for repair and equipment installation, and as you know, many hands make light work!

Please sign up here for either opportunity, and I look forward to seeing you soon for our “day on”!

Aftercare Contracts, Signups and Early Pick-Up

If your child/children regularly attend aftercare please fill out an aftercare by clicking here. Not only does it save you money, it greatly helps aftercare staff plan accordingly and organize the students.

If your child/children will be dropping in to aftercare, please sign them up in advance in your BigSIS Portal or by emailing aftercare@urbanprairie.org.

Remember that Thursday is early pick-up! If you will not arrive by 2:45 pm please contact aftercare staff as soon as possible.

New Lunch Service, Order Now!

Urban Prairie is using a new lunch service. The company is Gourmet Gorilla, you can learn more about the company at www.gourmetgorilla.com.

We are serving hot, family style lunches priced at $4.50 per meal. Other cold lunch and “ala carte” options are available for various prices. Meals are prepared in a nut-free kitchen and all dietary restrictions can be accommodated.

The order deadline for the following week is always Wednesday at midnight.

For detailed instructions on placing orders click here.

Note: At this time the system only allows you to place individual orders for each day. If you would like to make a repeat order through the end of the month please email sophie.huckabay@urbanprairie.org for this to be processed on the back end.

Bumper Magnets are here!

If you ordered one, we will give it to you or your child at pick-up.  If you forgot to order but still want one, you can buy one in the office for $10.

Mopping Volunteers!

Thank you to all of the parents who have come in to help mop the classrooms.  Our cleaning service will now take up this job once a week as well.
