Curious Questions   (1)
We have a question for you!

We celebrated Martin Luther King Day in class with stories and experiences and the National Day of Service with volunteer opportunities for the first time this year.  How did we do?  What was your and your child’s experience of this celebration this year?  Please send your feedback to Festivals Chair Hannah Avellone (hannah.avellone@urbanprairie.org).

Parent Community Meeting Review

Last week the parent community held their first meeting of 2019. It was informative and delicious.

Ms. Merchant gave a presentation in the organized and freshly painted Practical Arts room about why Waldorf students carve wooden spoons, animals, and gnomes, spin yarn, and generally learn how to use their hands in productive and safe ways to make practical and celebratory objects.

A butter tasting followed this presentation in which Finlandia was pronounced the crowd favorite out of five commercially available butters.
Following the tasting, there were updates from the UPWS Board, the administration, and a progress report on the kitchen plans. The meeting began and ended with a verse from Rudolph Steiner’s Calendar of the soul.
The soul’s creative might
Strives from the bottom of the heart
To ignite in human life
Divine forces towards right activity,
So to fashion itself
In human love and in human deeds.

Monday Volunteers!

Kitchen Crew

Thank you to the parents and guardians who came out to clean and clear the kitchen space! Miguel Haro, Christine Muldoon, Lisa Gonzales, May Reilly, Janeil Ruiz, John Vigano, and Karen Trine.

La Casa Norte

We have frequently partnered with La Casa Norte for the Warm Things Drive and were happy to have the chance to work with them again this MLK Day!  La Casa Norte fights homelessness in the city by providing overnight shelters and interim housing, and our volunteers made lunches to hand out at the shelter (which is currently open 24 hrs/day b/c of the weather).
