MLK Day of Service - NO SCHOOL

On Monday, January 20, school will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Families are invited and encourage to take this as a “day on” rather than a “day off”.

The IU Health Pilsen Food Pantry, a neighborhood organization we have worked with before, could use your help re-crating produce, repacking dry goods (sugar packets, menstrual products), organizing, and distributing food to clients.

They can take 15 volunteers at a time, children are welcome but must be supervised by an adult.

Shift 1: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Shift 2: 1:00 – 3:00 pm

We have reached out to some other organizations and may be sharing volunteer details for them shortly.

Click here to sign up for a shift at the IU Health Pilsen Food Pantry (1713 S Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60608) or to be on the list should other opportunities be confirmed.

List your home on SteinerBNB

A former Waldorf class teacher has launched a new service for families in the Waldorf/Steiner communities to list accommodations. Many Waldorf teachers travel for workshops and trainings and lodging can pose a significant challenge.

Click here to learn more about being a host and using this service.

This service works like other home-sharing sites. Listing is free, there is a 10% service charge when lodging is booked.

Consider listing a room for visiting Waldorf community members! There will be a significant housing crunch from June 17 – 27 during the AWSNA Delegates Meeting (June 17 – 22) and Waldorf 100 Conference (June 23-27) being held at the Chicago Waldorf School in Andersonville.

UPWS Nosh & Network - Parent Hosts Needed!

Do you have friends, neighbors, and colleagues looking for schools for their children? Have they expressed an interest in Waldorf education? Do you live in a prime location full of prospective families? Help us get the word out about this transformative education, and please consider hosting a UPWS Nosh & Network event in the new year at your place of work, church, residential building, or even your local pub! We are here to help you help us with materials, training, and general support. Get in touch with Admissions Coordinator Jenifer Brenner for further information.

Curious Questions   (1)
Does my student need a hat and gloves if the high is above 40?

We’ve had a few unseasonably warm days, but in the mornings it is still in the 20’s and low 30’s. Here at Urban Prairie we say dress for the LOW not the high.

Thank you for making sure every student has a had and gloves or mittens before leaving the house!
