Faculty Training Days

  • As you have hopefully read in the class weekly update, the faculty has training on the afternoon of Sunday, March 13 and all day Monday, March 14 Kim John Payne will work directly with our faculty to bring this program to our school.
  • We will cancel school on Monday, March 14 but in light of this change we will now hold school on Thursday, March 24, the first of our Parent Teacher Conference days.  Based on this change to the Parent Conference days, please review your class teacher’s weekly update for a full schedule of times for Parent Teacher Conferences.
We do not take this action lightly and realize that it inconveniences many parents; however, we believe that this work is essential to the health of our school, and all of our children will benefit from it.

Interested in joining the UPWS Board of Trustees?

The Urban Prairie Board of Trustees seeks members to join its stewardship and long-term planning initiatives. We seek big-picture thinkers invested in leading the school toward a sustainable future. Of particular interest are capacities in finance, change management, project management, real estate, and consensus building. Trustees place the school in their top 2 to 3 philanthropic priorities. Please contact Peg Kern (peg.kern@urbanprairie.org) or Sharla Stewart (sharla.stewart@urbanprairie.org) to learn more or to suggest a candidate.

City Garden Orientation

Kim John Payne Tickets on Sale Now!
  • Saturday, March 12 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.- Kim will offer a lecture at which he will give an overview of restorative discipline as outlined in his book, “The Soul of Discipline.”  He will discuss the three stages of development for children (young children, tweens, and teens) and describe creative, realistic ways to guide them towards compliance with a loving authority.
  • Sunday, March 13 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Kim will follow up the lecture with a workshop opportunity.  This is a chance for you to take the ideas laid out in the lecture and with Kim’s help, create a roadmap to get your family where you want to be.  If you have read “Simplicity Parenting,” you know that Kim doesn’t want to add to anyone’s already full plate.  His great hope is that you will attend the Sunday workshop so that his ideas about restorative discipline move from your to-do list to your list of accomplishments that have really made a difference for your family.

Tickets can be purchased here.
