Ann Burfiend: Understanding Waldorf Education

Christian Community Priest and former Class Teacher from Tamarack Waldorf School Ann Burfeind is visiting UPWS for one last time before she moves!  She’ll discuss Waldorf education, child development, and how the Waldorf curriculum is designed to foster the healthy growth of the human being.  Ann is a great resource for our community, and we are happy to welcome her back.  Don’t miss this great opportunity not only to hear her speak but also to bid her a fond farewell!

UPWS Board of Trustees Meeting

Tuesday, December 18

Community Solstice Spiral

Come find your quiet strength and guiding light that will see you through the darkest, coldest days of the year. This tradition, practiced in Waldorf schools the world over but plucked from much older roots, provides a meditative space for us to focus our energy for the challenges to come. A spiral is laid out for you to walk and candles are provided to light your way.

Thursday, December 20

Festival of Lights

Families are invited to attend this all school assembly. Come enjoy a puppet play and community sing-along to start your winter vacation off right!

Important Note: There will be no Aftercare, all children must be collected during normal dismissal (2:25 – 2:40 pm).

Friday, December 21 - Friday, January 4
NO SCHOOL

There is no school on Friday, December 21. We will see you on Monday, January 7!

Curious Questions   (1)
Can we support UPWS while taking care of Holiday Shopping?

You can! In addition to checking out the Urban Prairie table at the Community Fair, you can syphon off some of your Amazon shopping proceeds to us by selecting us in Amazon Smile!

Go to www.smile.amazon.com and search for “Urban Prairie” in the list if charities.

In Gratitude   (1)
Thank you to Lisa Gonzales, Sarah Steedman, Heidi Jacobson and Adriana and Jesus Ruiz-Velasco! Also thank you to nurseries CJ Fiore and Christy Webber Farm and Garden

We couldn’t have had our Festival of Thanks meal without the wonderful help of our parent volunteers.  Heidi and Adriana really jumped into action when it seemed lunch wouldn’t be ready on time, and I heard rave reviews from all the students!

CJ Fiore and Christie Webber Nurseries generous donated perennial grasses, flowers, trees, and edible plants this fall.

Several classes helped put the plants in the ground and there will be lots of blooms springing up when warm weather returns.

You can support those who support us by checking out Christy Webber’s family friendly Winterfest at their retail location at 2833 W Chicago Ave. The event is Saturday, December 1 from 11:00-3:00.  They will have kid’s crafts, wine tasting, gourmet chocolate, live music, and Santa.
