Weekly Update - March 8, 2019

Dear Fourth Grade,

This week we dove into the ocean to explore some fascinating creatures. The main attractions were the cuttlefish, the salmon, and the eel.

We’re more than halfway through our presentations. The students are doing a fantastic job. Overall, they have been well-prepared, maintained good eye contact, spoken with clarity, and had poise through their nerves. We’ve all learned some wonderful things about animals. The audience members each take notes afterwards, and a page will go in each morning lesson book with a sentence about their classmates’ work. Reading their animal storybook drafts has been a pure delight. What great budding authors!

I look forward to sharing our work and progress with you at the upcoming parent-teacher conferences. Please contact me ahead of time with any specific topic, question, or concern you’d like to discuss.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to inform you of a change in my position at Urban Prairie. I am now the Interim Faculty Chair for the remainder of the school year. Though many of the job duties of Pedagogical Director were taken up this year by specific committees, the faculty realized that there was a need for an individual to hold the whole and be able to direct and support all those pieces. Some of my other responsibilities have been lessened in order to make space in my schedule for this work. In addition to that, one skills lesson per week will be taught to 4th grade by another teacher. I will update you on that when we have a confirmation on staffing.
