CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHTS

We ended the block with a week on vertical multiplication. First we learned Flower Multiplication, which is 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. Then we learned Square Dance Multiplication, which is 2-digit by 2-digit. They had started learning this dance inside squares last week to a rhyme, and they eventually realized what it was this week. Square Dance Multiplication is odd because you multiply then add the products. This was new for most of the class, and many still need to say the rhymes as they do the problems. Overall, there has been a great amount of focused work during this block. We ended on Friday in small groups, each group teaching the class one of the main concepts we learned over the last three weeks.

In Practical Arts we dyed with madder root our first red. We also began our rag rug. A few minutes of hilarity was had when it was decided that we all should wear some of the donated baby clothing before cutting it up for the rug. Check out the photos on our shutterfly page.
