The Wonder of Mathematics with Jamie York

The Re-Imagining Mathematics Workshop Series

For Public, Private, and Homeschool Teachers of all Grades

About the Event

Jamie York’s re-imagining of the teaching of math is founded on the deeply held belief that we need to redefine the purpose and nature of math. Math is not about getting through a textbook or teaching procedures blindly; math should be an adventure for both teachers and students.

Math education is about the adventure of overcoming challenges and struggles. Fear is not part of the adventure, yet too often we let fear that a child will lose in the race to “get ahead” compel us to overload students with too many topics. The consequence is superficial and rote learning that loses all connection to the wonders of math.

Goal: Reawaken your sense of the wonder of math

Topics to be Covered:

  • Core Principles of Teaching Math
  • Math Puzzles and Problem Solving
  • Geometry
  • Goals for Teaching Math
  • Rations and Building up to Pi
