Important Dates

December 6. Yuletide Festival. This is a joint holiday gathering between Urban Prairie and our sister school and early childhood City Garden.  Please plan to come enjoy the festivities between 4 and 7 pm.  There will be singing, performances, cafes, and a festive tree lighting ceremony.  Plan to come and stay; there are no vendors this year, it is purely a community gathering.  Grade 5 and 6 will host a canned goods collection table and have also been practicing one of the songs we will sing at the tree lighting.  I am working with Ms. Avellone at City Garden to allow the 6th grade students to sign up to volunteer in areas in addition to their canned goods collection table.

December 17. Evening Advent Walk. This year we observed Diwali as an inward looking and reverent festival of lights.  We will not be walking the Advent Spiral in school, but all are invited to come to our community observance in the evening.  This is from 5-7pm, more details to come.

December 19. Friday. School is out for the season. Friday the 19th is  a normal full-length day.

January 5. Monday. School Resumes.

Conferences

It was, as always, a pleasure to sit down with all of you at parent teacher conferences this past week.  I hope you all had a wonderful break and the children are well rested from their time off.

Morning Lesson

In morning lesson last week we finished up country reports and even shared a little snippet from them at the assembly.  Overall I was very impressed with the student’s presentation and public speaking skills.  They have all made great improvements since their state reports last year. (which were also very nice!)  I have not yet read the written reports due to extended deadlines as well as very late arrival of the spirals we meant to bind them with, but I very much look forward to thoroughly perusing them this coming week.

Monday we will begin learning about Ancient Greece; the block will end with tales of Alexander of Macedonia and his conquests.

Dante Ragozzino, brother to Marco in grade 4, is joining grade 6 on Monday.  Please help me in giving him a warm welcome into the class.

Cheers,

Miss Kiefer
