Dear Families and Parents,

We have begun our final foray into the world of the Hebrew Scriptures this week! It is hard to believe that we have already arrived at this point of the year. The next few weeks we will hear the stories of Samuel, Saul, David, Solomon, and Elijah. We will be using these stories as a basis for our writing, which will draw upon all that we have learned so far this year. We will be writing solid and sentences and paragraphs, using a checklist to be sure that we keep our writing at a consistent high quality. This careful approach to our writing will help to solidify the great practices we have already begun this year.

Shelters.

As you well know, the students will be bringing their shelters to school on Monday, March 2. You can bring them first thing in the morning. The doors will be open for children with shelters at 7:45. Over the course of the week, the children will be presenting their shelters to each other and the other classes. On Friday, March 6from 2:00 – 3:00, parents are cordially welcomed to join the third grade for challah, fresh butter, and an opportunity to talk with the children about their shelters. Please RSVP to me by the beginning of next week so we know how many people to expect.

Fiber Project.

Next month the third grade will begin our Fibers Block. This block is a continuation of our studies of Life on Earth, which included farming and shelter construction. We will be dyeing wool during this block and need some red and yellow onion skins to help with this process. I just keep a paper bag in the kitchen. We only need the first two layers, the part of the skin that is the driest. They can be dropped off at school on Monday, March 16.

Class Presentation (Class Play).

The third grade will presenting a special Passover Seder performance on the evening of Thursday, April 9, from 5:30 – 6:30. Due to the size and intimacy of the event, it will be limited to third graders and their families. More information to follow!
