Third Grade Shelter Scene Project Instructions

As part of the 3rd grade Shelters Block, you are being asked to construct a model shelter scene. You will be able to work on your project at home. The project is due on Monday, March 2, 2015.

Guidelines.

  1. Choose a type of shelter by Friday, January 30, 2015. You can use the list below for some ideas. Everyone should choose a different project, so please have a backup one ready if someone has already chosen your first choice.
  2. Draw a sketch of your shelter scene and make a list of the materials you will need to build your shelter by Friday, February 6.
  3. Acquire the materials you will need to build your shelter scene.
  4. Begin to gather information concerning your shelter. Everyone will have an opportunity to stand in front of the class, present their shelter, and answer questions.
  5. Begin constructing your shelter. When at home, your family may give you ideas or suggestions, and help you as you put your shelter together. However, this is your project and it is to be built mostly by you!
  6. Once your shelter is constructed, begin to put in the landscaping and ‘scene’ items that make it a complete example of life in the culture where such a shelter would be found. You can get ideas for this by looking at book that feature this type of shelter.
  7. Bring your completed shelter scene to school on March 2, 2015.
