Urban Prairie Alumni Reunion

Calling all Alumni! Join us Saturday, May 22, from 1-3:00 pm at Promontory Point Park at 55th and Lake Shore Drive for an Urban Prairie Reunion/Ice Cream Social. Hosted by Sharla Paul. Please register using this link, so we know how many treats to bring – https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e48aba92ba5fa7-alumni.

Pentathlon

Pentathlon, traditionally held in late May, is an important capstone in the Waldorf fifth grade year at Urban Prairie and many other Waldorf schools in the U.S. Due to the pandemic and COVID related protocols, the Pentathlon will look different this year, but we are excited that we will be able to host an on-site, UPWS-only Pentathlon during school hours on Friday, May 28th. Families of former and future Pentathletes: Please join the faculty and staff in wishing this year’s fifth graders a wonderful experience!

Spirit Week

We are bringing back spirit week! Coinciding with Jump-a-Thon, students will be encouraged to show their school spirit.

June 1: Pajama Tuesday

June 2: Wacky Wednesday

June 4: Favorite Animal Friday

Students may come to school dressed in theme. They should be able to move freely and participate in all activities. We ask that students not wear full face masks, just their regular mask.

Summer Camp – Don’t MIss Out

Summer camp is on the way to reaching 100% enrollment.  Currently 78% of our slots are taken and some weeks are full.  Don’t find yourself on the waiting list.  Follow this link for all the details:  https://www.urbanprairie.org/life-at-upws/camps/

Community Members Making a Difference

Congratulations!  Ravi Parakkat, 4th grade parent and board member, has a new title.  He was elected to a four year term as Trustee for the Village of Oak Park.  A video of his swearing in (at minute 41:20) and remarks (at 1:30:10) can be found here:

COMMUNITY CONNECTION CORNER

Staff Appreciate the Appreciation

Staff members would like to thank Community Connections for all the support they have provided this year–surprises, notes, treats, banner, Marz Beverages, cook books and last Thursday’s food truck lunch party.  More important than these kind gestures are all the thoughts, encouraging words, and appreciation shown by students and parents.

 Jump Around –

To give our 5th grade pentathletes the time and space they need, Jump-A-Thon is being pushed back one week. Pods should stay after dismissal on the dates below to participate.

  • 1st & 2nd grade on 6/1 at 2:15 pm

  • 3rd/4th & 5th grade on 6/2 at 2:15 pm

  • 6th,7th & 8th grade on 6/4 at 2:15 pm

This also means we’ll have one more week to schedule our fun, safely distanced, podded jump rope making sessions on the play lot later this month.  Stay tuned for donation details and keep your eyes out for an email from your class delegate about jump rope fabrication fun later this month! Jump-a-thon is a UPWS tradition the kids just love, logging countless hops and skips in the name of supporting our school.  Family & friends from near and far support their efforts with pledges and the color team with the most jumps wins.

Dear Families:

The UPWS Yearbook Committee is writing to share that our 2019-2020 Yearbook is FINALLY ready!

Although it was COVID, there were fun things to remember that we shared together.

Here is the link to order. Each individual family can log on, customize 2 or more pages for that year, pay, and get the book delivered to the school with free shipping in June or to your home for an additional charge. This yearbook costs $35 and $6.92 of the book cost goes directly to the school.

For new families, our yearbook vendor, TreeRing, is an eco-friendly, customer friendly, and cost-friendly yearbook company. The yearbook is a traditional, hard-bound book that has photos for each class, school events and community gathering.  If you order by Monday, May 17 your book(s) will ship free to the school. Here are the steps to order and personalize your child’s yearbook:

  1. Create an account with TreeRing.

  2. Pay for the book by credit card and you will get an option to create 2 free custom pages.

  3. To personalize your 2 free pages or to add more pages for an additional charge, upload your pictures and let TreeRing put them into pre-designed pages which is the default OR go to the bottom of the page and select “Want to Try the Page Editor?” This allows you to create your page from scratch so you can select a page template, drop/format your pictures and design your pages.

Note:
~ We have shared photos in folders by class and event. So all can see and add these photos to their custom pages. Others can share photos to these folders too. Although they are shared in TreeRing, the photos cannot be downloaded, only added to a TreeRing custom page.
~ When using the default design feature every picture you add, will be added to a page so if you add more pictures than the 2 free pages can show, the default design will add more pages that you can print for an additional charge or delete.

Here is some helpful information for creating custom pages.

Creating Custom Pages with Auto Build

Creating Custom Pages from Scratch and Using Page Layout

Uploading Photos: Parents & Students

  1. After completing your 2 pages you’re finished! Your book will print automatically by the deadline date ~ Be sure your pages are complete by the deadline, as whatever is on your custom pages will print as is.

  2. Come pick up your yearbook at UPWS if you want free shipping by ordering and completing your personalized pages by Sunday, May 17. We’ll contact you when the yearbooks arrive.

If you have any questions feel free to contact TreeRing’s excellent Customer Support to help you at 877-755-8733 from 8 am – 8 pm or feel free to reach out to our yearbook team lead Essi Ala-Kokko or the Community Connection email at c…@urbanprairie.org with any questions.

Thank you for ordering!
