Dear Parents,

This past week brought out fibers block to an end. In preparation for our final math block, work also included review of double digit multiplication.

Fibers and Weaving

IMG_4140On Tuesday, two angora bunnies visited the class sporting fluffy IMG_4146white and grey coats. Each child had the opportunity to pluck fur directly from the bunnies. Angora rabbits shed their coats 2-3 times a year. Plucking is vital to the rabbits well being. Each rabbit may provide 2-4 oz. of fur 2-3 times a year. After plucking, the fur can be spun to create 60-100 yards of extremely luxurious yarn. Items made from angora are so warm that most angora yarns are blended with another fiber such as cotton or wool. In addition to working with angora and cotton, the children have been busy weaving. IMG_4142

Rollie Pollies still bring delight!

There are many signs that we are at the height of spring. It is such a wonderful and invigorating time of year. Monday’s warm weather made for a wonderful time in the garden. Children were busy pulling weeds in preparation for planting and transplanting. However, pill bugs took the show! Several students were squealing with delight as they searched for rollie pollie families.

Spelling Words:

The new words were given on Thursday. I noticed that many children opted to not write them down. Not only is it practice, but their responsibility. I told them that I would not include them in my weekly update. This being said, if words were lost or you need clarification from myself please feel free to email me. The list should only include 9 words; all having to do with weight.
