Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a restful mid-winter break and heartfelt Valentine’s Day. Along with candle dipping, the children spent a lot of time coloring and weaving the hearts for their Valentine (mom and dad). It reminded me of my one of my favorite poems by E. E. Cummings: “i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)”. The candles are the 2nd grades contribution for winters night.
Morning Lesson:
After hearing the story of St. Jerome and the lion, the children spent several days reviewing, acting and drawing scenes from the story. Working in small groups, they were given sections of the story and asked to write short summaries. We then spent the next day organizing and compiling what they wrote into a summary that will be written into their main lesson book. The children continued to work with the naming and doing words introduced in the last language arts block. This week included work with describing words. We played a game on Friday with the list of nouns, verbs and adjectives compiled on the chalkboard from the story of St. Jerome.
Pen pal drawings have arrived! I can not wait for the children to discover them on their desks. We will start our next letter this week.
